Hi, Again!

Just got a pair of Dahon Speed D7s for myself and the gf on Saturday.

I have been wanting to get a folding bike since I first read about it on Mr. Brown's blog a few years ago. At the time, I was still studying in Malaysia, and buying a bike did not seem to be a good idea (for safety reasons). So I did not really have a serious thought of buying one.

Having since moved to Singapore and started working here, I again entertained the idea of buying a folding bike. However, it was only recently that I began browsing and reading cycling and bike related blogs, forums and Facebook pages.

I narrowed down my choices to these 3 models: Dahon Speed D7, Dahon Mu P8 and a Brompton M6R (Least expensive to Bloody Expensive).

Notice how in their folded states, the Brompton is more compactly folded. To be fair, the Brompton's wheel is 16" while the Dahon is 20".

I really fell in love with the Brompton for its classic look, the compact fold and that ingenious idea of being able to roll it when folded!!! However, the Brompton costs 4 times as much as the Speed D7.

So I decided I really wanted the Brompton, but for the time being I would get the Speed D7 first so that I could start cycling. Then I would save up for the Brompton!

I hope to blog about my cycling adventures and share photos from my rides regularly, if time permits.

There are a few things on my list that I'm looking forward to. Just thinking about them excites me.

1. Graduation in Sept.

This one definitely has to top the list. I'm finally done away with assignments and exams, at least for now lah.

2. Snow Leopard release in Sept.

Who doesn't get excited over the US$29 upgrade?

3. Dan Brown's The Lost Symbol release in Sept

I read The Da Vinci Code and Angels and Demons so I'm definitely going to buy The Lost Symbol to find out what Robert Langdon is up to this time.

4. Infinity Ward's Call Of Duty 6 or Modern Warfare 2 release in Nov.

I saw the gameplay trailer on YouTube the other day... so I'm pretty stoked at what I saw...

*Also looking forward to submitting documents to process my LPR application, and then having my LPR application approved and finally landing that desired job.*

I've abandoned this space for long enough. Many things have happened since my last entry.

The last entry was written five days before my final exam, so since that entry, I:

1) sat for my final exam.

2) came out fucking worried that I might flunk it again.

3) bought the 10-22mm lens that I always wanted.

4) went on short vacation to the island of Penang with the missus.

5) from Penang we went on a one-day trip to nearby Langkawi island. Hired a car and drove around the island.

6) returned to Sunway and began worrying about my exam result thereafter days and nights. lol.

7) went to Genting Highlands, twice. Once with my auntie and her family, and another occasion with the usual suspects: Felix, Dody and Ivan. Won rm 200 in the beginning but quickly in a span of only 2 hours, lost all the winnings plus rm 300 of my own money. fuck!!

8) killing zombies, monsters and witches on a daily basis at a nearby cybercafe with friends.

9) resumed playing GTA IV (as of typing this, I've only have one more mission before i beat the game).

10) fucking jubilated when result was released. I passed and i'm gonna graduate this Sept.

11) visited the missus in Singapore and met up with a couple of friends during my stay.

I think I've covered most things that had happened to the best that I could remember.

Getting a new 'cat' this September

So I stayed up at 1 a.m on Tuesday waiting for the WWDC'09 to begin. I was really, really hoping for some juicy Apple news.

To me, the WWDC'09 delivered both excitements and disappointment.

First the excitements.

1) Apple's brand new OS dubbed the Snow Leopard. Offers 64-bit computing and lots of "refinements". But, little or no changes to the UI at all. Best thing about the new OS? Upgrade will only cost US$29!!! Releasing in September.

2) Brand new iPhone 3G S (Speed). Looks good. But am not especially excited because I'm not an iPhone user. The apps showcased during the keynote was fantastic though. I was actually hoping that the new iPhone would sport a matte back instead of shiny one, and of course a 'glowing Apple logo' at the back. Apparently, Apple still wants to retain the original iPhone 3G look.

Now the BIG disappointment:

Apple decided that the 13" MacBook Unibody will now be called 13" MacBook Pro. The price will be cheaper and of course it will have higher specs, too.

WTF! This is so unfair. I just bought mine 6 months ago for fuck's sake. Even worse, I bought mine at a time when the Rupiah was weak, at RM1 = IDR3340. Now it's strengthening to RM1= IDR28XX.

So not only has the 13" MacBook unibody been renamed to MacBook Pro, it has better specs and costs much less.

Windows 7, up and running.

I'm test-driving Windows 7 RC1 on my MacBook now.

At first I was torn between having to choose to install it Boot Camp-style or Virtual Machine-style.

I just got the Win7 iso a few days ago from my friend. And I read that if you want to install it via Boot Camp, you have to burn the iso into a DVD so that it can run as installation CD. While I also read that it is possible to run the iso from USB sticks, it requires technical expertise which I do not possess.

So in the end, I chose to install Windows 7 via Parallel Desktop (You need to upgrade to recent versions so that Parallel Desktop can identify that you are trying to install Windows 7 (Experimental).

For a complete installation walk-through, I read this.

It took me roughly 45 mins to have Windows 7 up and running, with all drivers properly installed.

If you haven't got Windows 7, download is still available till July 2009.

There is a one-year time frame before the RC1 copy of Windows 7 expires on June 1 2010. However, starting March 1 2010, your computer will shutdown every two hours. This, I presume is to remind you to get the commercial copy which should be out in stores by then.

Out of the blue today, my Dad came to me and said,"I got you a Blackberry".

I couldn't believe what I heard. A Blackberry!

Not even once have I thought that I would own a Blackberry. The iPhone 3G, on the other hand, had always been on my mind.

The Blackberry my Dad got me was the Bold 9000. Luckily it was the Bold and not the Curve nor the Storm. Good choice, Dad.

Having used it for a few hours now, I think I'm growing fonder of the phone. I like that I am able to use the Blackberry Internet Service (BIS) to go browse, check emails and chat online without being limited to using 3G or Wifi.

It helps that I'm using XL in Indonesia and XL has this service called the Blackberry One that charges a flat rate of Rp.5000/day, unlimited for internet usage. Remarkably affordable.

I only hope that Malaysia's telco can offer such cheap BIS as XL's.

Thank you, Dad, for the phone! I'm finally a smartphone user.

I watched Dragon Ball Evolution last night and frankly it was one of the worse movies I've watched this year.

It was a disappointment, really. But Qiqi and Bulma were worth watching though. Hehs.

There's another thing that I wanna mention. In my last entry, I talked about The Unborn movie poster and praised how good a poster it was.

So last night while watching Dragon Testicles Evolution, I was freaking excited when I came across The Unborn poster. But there was something different about this particular one.

I really LMAO-ed hard on the spot because the poster I saw was this:

I'm actually a little disappointed at the price. It has remained at U$1,299 for the basic model, not the U$899 price-tag that got me excited since last month. The U$899 is actually the price for Apple's new 24" Cinema Display.

SO IT'S TRUE!

Apple will be announcing its new line of Macbooks/Pros on the 14 October (15 Oct in this part of the world). So the rumour turned out to be quite reliable after all.

I can't wait! I hope the notebooks will be cheaper and better this time round. From what I've gathered so far, the most basic MacBook model would be priced from $899 (w00000t!!!!) and feature NVIDIA chips. Also, the plastic casing would be replaced by aluminium ones, like those found on iMacs.

I think if Apple really introduces cheap notebooks under U$1k, then it's time I replace my four-year old Toshiba.

But my only concern at the moment is the strengthening of US dollars, which means Malaysian resellers may have to sell the notebook at higher prices. Damn the global financial crisis!

By the way, the AUD slipped so much. Last I checked, it was AUD$1 against Rph.6623!!! Hopefully it falls further to Rph.6000s ... so that my dream of going to Melbourne for holiday materializes!

I just read that the recently announced Canon EOS 5D Mark II has Full HD movie recording capabilities! This is indeed unprecedented in DSLR history!

So immediately I jumped to Canon's website to see the quality of the movie recording.

With the right lenses attached to the camera (hint: the L lenses), the camera can deliver stunning videos!

BUT! I noticed there is no sound in the videos?! Dun tell me the 5D m2 dun haf microphone!

New iPod Nano and iPod Touch Announced!

Apple's iPod Nanos and iPod Touch have been given facelifts.

The new iPod Nano reverts back to its rectangular form (like the Generation 1 Nano), albeit with wider screen and it also features the Accelerometer found in the iPhones. Perhaps, you could also do 'Coverflow' in the new Nano. IMO, the rectangular ipod nanos look better than the squarish ones.

The new iPod Touch looks sleeker with full stainless steel back and it now features built-in speaker. Comes in 8GB, 16GB and 32GB.

My friend had recently just bought the old 32GB ipod Touch at rm2k. The new ipod touch will cost less than that! If I'm not mistaken,the new 32GB version will be priced at U$429(rm1.5k).

I've recently come across a great homebrew app for the Nintendo DS. It's a nifty colouring/painting/drawing app for those who love drawing or even those who just simply can't draw but love to doodle silly stuffs, i.e, me.

Apparently the Colors DS have been around for quite some time because, already, there is a gallery showcasing the great works done by other people. And believe me, they are really great! Check it out yourself! I think at first glance, if I haven't told you it was drawn using DS, you would think it was drawn using Photoshop or Illustrator.

Anyway, this was done by me today at school while waiting for the rain to stop.

Few days ago while browsing some photography forum, I came across a thread that read "Eye Shots". So I clicked on it and after scrolling down some entries, I came across one picture that totally blew me away. It was a macro shot of the human eye, more specifically, the iris.

These photos are the conclusion to my PIKOM PC FAIR (II) set from several posts ago.

So after coming out from the exhibition halls, we went straight to the park. Quickly we found a shady spot and sat down on the grass. It had been exhaustive walking for hours. Yet, I couldn't pack the camera into the bag.

As always, I reviewed the photos to see which ones were blur, which ones with gross white balance and which ones which made the "hard work" worth it.

I've finally gotten my Tamrac Adventure 7 in grey/black after 2 weeks of waiting. I love the camera backpack, and it doesn't carry the looks of a camera bag!

HOWEVER, I'm still having a tough time fiddling and figuring out how to fit my EOS 400D with battery grip with a lens attached into the compartments.

Bert, can you post a picture of how u fit your gears into ur Tamrac please! Appreciate it!

Anyway, I 'de-virginize' my Tamrac by bringing it to Fashion Fusion at Berjaya Times Square on Saturday.

One really can't shoot fashion runways if one doesn't own a longer range lens.

I shot with my 50mm (lol... I was the only one with a standard lens among the big guns)... damn paiseh sia standing beside people with big lenses.

Plug 'n' Play Youth Festival

Let's roll back in time to 25th July 2008.

For that was the day of the Plug 'n' Play Youth Festival at Sunway Pyramid outdoor area. This event is a collaborative effort of four universities and colleges, namely, Monash University, Inti College, Taylors College and KDU.

This festival promised events such as dance competition, battle of the bands, motorshow and race queen competition amongst many other events.

I was there for the motorshow and race queen competition, of course.

PIKOM PC FAIR (II) 2008 @ KLCC.

Over the weekend, I attended the PC Fair aka "Babe Fair" at KLCC with some friends.

I've recently got acquainted with this guy who just bought an EOS 40D and we agreed to go shoot some portraits. So the three-day event was a perfect outlet for us to fire some two hundred plus shutters.

As usual, I faced the problem of not being able to get the right white balance on my photos. Also, I think the crowds got larger at each PC Fair and it was impossible to take photos without hitting a person close by or a person accidentally knocked your arms.

Nonetheless, I think the promoters are also getting better in terms of the costumes they wear, amongst other things. It is safe to say that PC Fair has now become a full-blown photography event, at least for some people.

It should be called 'Babes Fair' instead, at least, to the photographers who went. Let's face it, they were there primarily to photograph the babes; buying or checking out latest IT products is secondary to them.

Well, I was one of those who went to the "Babes Fair". To be fair though, I did buy two pieces of 4GB Sandisk thumbdrives and a Canon cable release for my 400D.

I'm right now surfing on a wireless connection which I 'stole' from my friend's unit. Although the signal in my room is weak, the speed is a million times better than the hostel's connection.

I clocked in an estimated total of 18 hours in Singapore yesterday.

A friend and I left Puduraya bus station for Singapore at 12 a.m plus Saturday morning and arrived at Golden Mile Complex at around 7 a.m.

We then made our way to Katong Shopping Centre for breakfast and also to ‘borrow’ the toilet to wash up. It was still early when we arrived and the shopping centre was still in darkness. So we found a place to sit and instantly felt tiredness and sleepiness surge through our bodies.

At around 10 plus, we took the bus to Orchard Road. My friend wanted to have his nose checked up at Mount Elizabeth hospital and I wanted to change my $USD to $SGD and to deposit them into my bank account.

At midday, I felt like a walking zombie. I just wanted to lie down and catch some forty winks. Luckily I found a nice and comfortable couch to slouch at the Hospital and eventually went to sleep for 30 mins.

Felt energized again, we then went around looking for my t-shirts.

The purpose of my visiting Singapore is 1) to deposit $$$ and 2) to buy Graniph t-shirts.

I first got my Graniph tee in 2003 and instantly fell in love with their many designs and pastel-coloured t-shirts. But these days, I just go for white.

I found out, through the wonders of the internet, that Graniph opened its first store in Singapore in 2007 at Bugis Junction and now there are a total of three stores in Singapore in less than a year. WOW! Definitely good news for Graniph fans and even better news is that the prices are so much closer to the ones in Japan!

Just to illustrate to how much cheaper the t-shirts are: in 2003, I bought my Graniph for $49.90 at a store called Sidewalk 101 in Far East Plaza. It is not the official retailer for Graniph but somehow it carries some Graniph tees at significant mark-ups. Now at the official Graniph stores in Singapore, the same t-shirt is priced at $35 a piece and if you buy two, at $60. If in 2003, a $100 would only get me two t-shirts, now in 2008, it got me three!!!

So at 10 p.m Saturday night, we left Golden Mile Complex for Kuala Lumpur and arrived at Puduraya bus station at 3 a.m Sunday morning.

I’m so fed up with my hostel’s internet connection. It is the BIGGEST culprit that has been deterring me from updating this silly blog!

I’m sure if you were to ask anyone, who’s currently staying or who has stayed at Sunway Monash Condo before, regarding the pathetic internet connection, they would give you violent and angry replies. Expletives deleted and expletives deleted.

Seriously, and for fuck’s sake, the speed is like the growth rate of our hair!!! Chaocheeeput…

Enough rants and let’s go into the crux of my post today.

So, Rames wus very close with his answer: ‘pple doing bollywod song/movie’.

But really, I wus told it was an advertisement for a Pakistani or Sri Lankan (I’ve forgotted which country already, haiz) MTV.

The male and female leads shrouded in thin smoke (from burning incense), under the hot scorching sun!

It's tough being an actor/actress. Dressing up so formally like that in this Malaysian climate, and dun think that pair of wings isn't heavy! Let's not forget the numerous retakes to get a scene right.

However if you haven't been told earlier of the filming location, you might have thought it's somewhere in Europe. And when you watch the finished advertisement on t.v, your mind says, 'ahh...how nice... if only i wus paid to kiss/hug a girl'.

I'm flying back to Indonesia in a few hours' time. Haven't slept yet. Still in the process of packing my stuffs.

I went out with two other friends to Bukit Bintang just now for a photo-hunting session. Because the weather was freaking hot today, we decided to stay indoors. We were hoping that there were some kind of events at the malls for us to shoot at e.g fashion shows.

Realli nothing to shoot until haf to take pic of myself.

S.Wang had one event relating to Chinese New Year which didn't interest us at all becuz we didn't recognise any of the guests/celebrities. I'm not even sure if those are celebrities or wut. So we skipped.

So we proceeded to Pavillion where we found some things interesting to shoot at.

GOING HOME

So my two-month stint in the Sunway Internship Programme has finally come to an end. It began in December last year and ended today on the 31st of January.

I hate farewells.

I feel awkward during farewells, especially when a party/celebration is involved. In my case, we just had a simple lunch at Nandos, sponsored by the company, with colleagues from the Finance department.

Then after lunch, at 4 p.m, there was a tea appreciation organised for all the interns by the Sunway Group HR people who recruited us.

There was so much food to eat. But I was really full from my lunch earlier. So I just watched people eat and took their photos.

Hahahaha, the presentation of certificates was actually a suggestion I made during orientation when I was asked what I would like to gain out of this internship. Glad that they accepted my suggestion.

Tomorrow will be the last day of my internship period. Huuuuuuraaay.

It has been a great working and learning experience. This internship has given me a taste of what the office working life is like, of which I'm glad that I still have another year of university before I really immerse in that kind of life.

Movie Rants.

Two weeks ago, I think, I watched Cloverfield.

When I first saw its trailer during my first round of Transformers at the cinema back in July 2007, I remembered saying to my friends, 'wow another must-watch movie!!!'. It was still untitled then and shrouded in mystery and I soon forgot about it.

This year when I saw the poster of 'Clovefield' showing the headless Statue of Liberty,the dots connected. I suddenly remembered the trailer where the decapitated head of the statue of liberty was hurled from a distance like a ping-poing ball. Boy, was I excited.

Then the day finally arrived. I was so excited and curious at the same time at how the story was going to unfold. My expectation was, so to speak, through the roof!

As the movie played, what I thought was gonna be one of the best movies of 2008, had become one of the worst, in my opinion.

Wut I hate about the movie:

1. Too much screaming and running around. Getting from one place to another.I'd like that they focused on the monster too.

2. The dude behind the video camera kept screaming Rob's name. Fucking irritating.

3. Too much night scene. Night scene + running + shaky video camera = fucking dizziness. cb. Only the last 3-5 mins were daylight scene. Wtf.

4. wut the fuck happened to the monster in the end? BIG QUESTION MARK THERE.

Wut I like about it:

1. Perhaps the story-telling. Love the idea of telling a story through a first person's view.

Verdict: Damn fucking disappointed knnbccb........!!!

I watched 'Gabriel' last week and it topped Cloverfield in the worst movie category. Fucking lame siah the story... and the graphic... shit ....the most undeserving rm11 ever spent.

Rambo yo asssssss!!

I just came back from watching Rambo 4. Initially I didn't think I would watch the movie, let alone like it. The reason why I disliked it at first is because I hate the idea of shooting the whole thing in a jungle... but I wus totally wrong. I love the movie.

Love the violence and lots of bloody splattering scenes, the powerful explosions and firing of machine guns. OMG.. RAMBOOOOOOOOO......

I wish they will make 'Rambo' a verb!!!

A TRIBUTE TO MY NINTENDO DS LITE

(which I almost sold).

It seems like one would never grow tired of their Nintendo DSes.

I mean, of course at one point in time you will feel bored after playing it for one year. But with so many great homebrew applications out there for the handheld console, it is not difficult to start liking your DS again as if it were just bought yesterday.

If you bought your Nintendo DS solely for playing games, then you are not doing this awesome little gadget any justice. Please don't, for god's sake! It is capable of doing so many other things!!!

Why not? It is equipped with wifi connectivity, a microphone and a touchscreen function for interactivity.

Right now, I think some talented developers are experimenting how to turn the Nintendo DS into a functional Skype-like phone.

You can turn your DS into an ipod, albeit not as many features as the real ipod. But close enough. Using the touchscreen, you can scroll the wheel of the ipod to choose menu, songs and adjust volume.

Last week, after almost 3 years and many failed attempts to meet, I finally had the chance to meet a couple of old friends from Melbourne. So my friend and I went to the "Youth '08 - We Are The Trendsetters", a Malaysian Youth Lifestyle Showcase 2008 on the 19th Jan.

This event could not have come at a better timing, when my friend had just returned from Indonesia and we were just dying to go fire some shutters.

Back in December 2007, a week before Christmas, few friends and I went to Midvalley for the PLAYex'07, a convention of some sort for games, comics, manga and toys aficionados.

Having never attended this sort of event before, I thought it was going to be a great one.

How so very wrong was I. THE EVENT SUCKED. SUCKED SUCKED.

Maybe my expectation was high, but I had a pre-conceived idea that it was gonna be like the ComicCon in San Diego... rofls... ok, maybe not on such a grand scale... but come on... at least 1/5 of it. Man, I was totally disappointed.

Anyway, we didn't spend more than 30 mins there and proceeded to The Gardens.

Felt really hungry near midnight, so decided to grab a bite near my place.

WORST MOVIE EXPERIENCE!

Bloody hell, I've something to rant about.

I just have one of the worst movie experiences, thus far!!

and this happened at TGV @ Sunway Pyramid.

So I was watching American Gangster, supposedly a very serious drama, Godfather-type, but not even close.

And suddenly, when it wus half way into the show and getting serious, the picture in the screen moved or wus it misaligned.. you know you can see the border of the film and some parts of the scene was cut. And sometimes it was split into two, with the bottom screen on top.

Then came the funny part.

The TGV peeps fixed the 'split screen' problem but they didn't know that they had projected the picture on the screen lower than usual. Meaning to say that, originally in a scene, you can see a character's full body. but now, since it's 'lower', you can only see his head and there's more space above his head.

Sometimes, you can see the microphones too.

In some scenes, the microphone is much lower and conspicuous. it wus funny seeing the scene and frustrating at the same time.

Now, have you seen subtitle this high???

PC FAIR DEC @ KLCC

So my friends and I went to the PC FAIR on the 8th of December 2007 at KLCC. And already you can tell this entry is one month late. But like they say, better late than never.

Well, the purpose was to take pictures of the models (living and non-living alike). But when we reached there, we find the place so unusually "desolate" of fellow shutterbugs/colour wolves (Later we found out that they went to an event where the girls were 10 million times hottaaaa!!!!!!!! aka The Xtreme Night!).

We felt abit paiseh to approach the models and take their photos. Defintely hundreds of eyes would be looking at us like cheekopeks and we didn't want that kind of attention.

So mission failed. Utterly disappointed.

Anyway the models (living ones) oso not, urm, how to say... "cream of the crop"... haha.. cuz the better ones were at TXN remember?? But got lah.. one or two promising ones.

We went outside and took photos of buildings instead.

Now that we're finished with the formalities (intro and such), I'm glad I can start blogging about recent events i.e New Year's Eve.

So, New Year's Eve.

I had Japanese dinner buffet with a few friends at Shogun Sunway Pyramid. After dinner, we went to the arcade for a few rounds of Daytona and Time Crisis III.

Close to midnight, we walked over to Sunway Resort Hotel to check whether there were any good spots for watching the fireworks. There was none. We had to watch it through the glass window with extra reflections from the lights. But it was alright though because the fireworks didn't last very long. Probably about 5 mins only.

After the fireworks, we decided to explore the hotel a little bit. And we stumbled upon the Miss Tourism Metropolitan Finals. Unfortunately the show had ended. But some of the contestants were still hanging around and taking pictures with the audience. Of course I didn't waste this opportunity and approached some of the contestants to take their photos.

Hello all, welcome to my new blog.

First of all, I want to congratulate every one for making it to 2008! And I hope the new year will bring you wealth, health and love.

I've actually been meaning to move over to Blogspot from Xanga for several months now. I'm not sure whether it was the lack of motivation that caused the delay, or whether the fact that I couldn't find a suitable date.

This morning when I woke up, I suddenly had the urge to create a blogspot. Well, what could be a better date to start over than the first day of 2008 right? Strangely though, I can also feel the motivation now.

This blog will mainly serve as a photoblog where I post up pictures I took and also it will be a space to keep my rants/thoughts. You definitely WILL NOT find any emo stuffs on this blog, that I can assure you!
